Oestrogens impact colorectal cancer (CRC) development and proliferation. Biologically active oestrogens, oestrone (E1) and oestradiol (E2), are metabolised through hydrolysis of their sulfated forms (oestrone sulfate (E1S) and oestradiol sulfate) by steroid sulfatase (STS).
